prefers Virtual Reality over traditional learning

Immersive learning is rapidly changing the approach to soft skills training in organizations. Interactive simulations, especially in VR, enable real-world experiences that enhance learning outcome. Research gives us insight into why and how this works. Not only, we make use of existing research papers, we also conduct research on the effectiveness of our own products. Mostly in cooperation with students from different Universities (e.g. The Radboud University, Tilburg University etc.). This way, we can keep improving our products.

Why it works

  • Less stress, higher motivation
In contrast to traditional role-play, the player does not feel the judging eyes of fellow trainees, training actors, and assessors. This leads to higher motivation and a more open mindset.
  • More presence, higher engagement
Trainees experience co-presence with the virtual humans in the immersive environment. In other words; they feel as if they’re there and are more emotionlly connected with the content presented to them. This leads to a better and deeper understanding of the information.
  • More relevant scenario’s, better information transfer
Training in VR enables adapting the training context in terms of different behaviors and environmental influences like the increase of stress. This feels similar to scenarios in the real life world which increases the chance of feeling ‘transported‘ into the world of virtual reality. That way, people are more open to new information and will learn faster.
  • More practice, better retention
Improving your skills is all about behavioral change, which isn’t achieved in a single moment. It requires lots of practice and repetition to achieve that desired long-term effect, something that comes within reach with virtual reality. Virtual reality namely provides better long-term retention because it addresses important emotional and cognitive functions of the brain.
  • More confident feeling afterward
Virtual reality can lead to people feeling more confident about applying their learned skills in practice. Especially when you compare this to in-class training or e-learning.
